DSLR cameras are explained as a digital single-lens reflex camera. They are digital cameras that use a mechanical mirror system and pentaprism to direct light from the lens to an optical viewfinder on the back of the camera. Trying not to get too technical how a DSLR camera works is the mirror in the camera reflects the light coming through when you are trying to take a picture. It is then reflected three times by the roof pentaprism which rectifies it for the photographer’s eye to see well. A shutter then opens allowing the lens to project light onto the image sensor. A second shutter then covers the sensor ending the exposure and the picture has been taken. All of this happens so fast and automatically with most cameras designed to do this 3-10 times per second.
